St. John’s Cathedral Restoration Work
Client: Diocese of Limerick
Date: 2001 – 2003
St. John’ s Cathedral in Limerick was built in
1856-1859 and, though maintained throughout the years,
it had begun to show signs of progressive deterioration
by the late 1990’s. McMahon Design and Management
became involved as Project Managers in January 2001.
The full extent of the problems was defined and a strategy,
a budget and a programme were developed for the requisite
conservation works. The Cathedral is listed as a “protected
structure” and compliance with the procedures
required in these circumstances was a significant issue.
Work got underway on the €8.5 million conservation
in October 2001 and was completed, in accordance with
the pre-determined programme on 28th June 2003. |
