Date: 1999 – to date
Landfall design and on-shore pipeline (30”/85
bar), routing over 30km from the coastline in north Dublin
to a proposed gas fired Power Station at Woodlands. This element
of the project included site selection, platform levels and
access roads for a 2 no. 400 MW station, together with participation

BGE Gas Interconnector Project:
The Gas Interconnector Project
Client: Bord Gais Eireann
Date: 1991 - 1996
The IR£287 million Gas Interconnector Pipeline is the
largest infrastructural project undertaken by an Irish Authority
to date, and was the first project in which one member state
carried out works in another member state under the aegis of
the E.U. The project was divided into five major Contract elements
as follows:
- Offtake on the British Gas Transmission
System at Moffat Compressor Station.
- An 80km 30” pipeline in Scotland,
extending from Moffat to the Solway Coast at Brighouse Bay.
- An 18MW Compressor Station at Brighouse
Bay with a capacity to deliver gas at 148 barg (2,200 psi).
- A 205km 24” Subsea Pipeline from
the Solway Coast to Loughshinny, near Skerries, in North
County Dublin.
- A Pressure Reduction/Metering Station
on the Irish Coast and an 8km 30” pipeline from Loughshinny
to bord Gais Eireann’s National Transmission System
at Ballough.

Sub-Sea Pipeline
Project: Gas Interconnector
Sub-Sea Pipeline
Client: Bord Gais Eireann
Date: 1991 - 1993
The Subsea Pipeline is 24” in diameter and is
designed for 148 barg, It traverses three Jurisdictions and
is laid in sea bottom conditions ranging from sand waves and
soft clays to hard till and boulder clays.
The Subsea pipeline was laid in a 54-day period from 1st March
1993 to 23rd April 1993. The water depth ranged up to 110
metres and the Laybarge DLB 1601 achieved a World Record for
daily pipelay of 24” subsea pipe with 6,048 metres on
14th April 1993.
Lengths of Pipeline by Jurisdiction:
Irish Waters 61.9km
Isle of Man Waters 76.4km
U.K. Waters 65.6km
The subsea pipeline was commissioned in November 1993 with
North Sea Gas flowing at Loughshinny. |

South West Scotland Pipeline
Project: South West Scotland Pipeline
Client: Bord Gais Eireann
Date: 1991 - 1993
The 30 inch/75 barg line in Scotland comprised 80km
of pipeline routing involving 53 Road crossings, 1 Railway Crossing
and 7 river Crossings.
The working width was 30 metres and involved wayleaves from
85 landowners. All wayleaves were obtained by agreement.
Construction of the Scottish Pipeline commenced in March 1993
and was commissioned in October 1993. |
Compressor Station
Project: Compressor Station Brighouse Bay
Client: Bord Gais Eireann
Date: 1993 - 1994
The Compressor Station at Brighouse Bay in
Scotland comprises 3 No. 6 MW Gas Turbines with Thermodyn
Compressor Sets. The Turbo compressor Units are designed to
be operated in series and parallel mode allowing for gas compression
up to 148barg. The Station has provision for future expansion
in terms of a further two Turbo-Compressor Units.
The station is also equipped with Fiscal Flow Meters, Gas
Scrubbers, Fuel Gas Skid, Fin Fan Coolers, Lube Oil Coolers,
Air Intake Filters, Emergency Generators, Demineralised Water
System and a Fire Water Ring Main. The turbo Compressor system
is equipped with state of the art High Integrity Protection
System and Emergency Shut Down System.
The Works involved the excavation of 75,000 cubic metres of
rock, the construction of a Compressor Building, Administration
Block and a Services Building, together with the installation
and commissioning of all equipment, associated pipework and
infrastructure. |
