Wexford to Lands End Fibre Optic Cable

The Project involved acting as Clients Representative to Esat Telecom on a Turnkey Contract which was awarded to Pirelli for the supply, installation and commissioning of a 255km fibre optic link (beach manhole to beach manhole) between Kilmore Quay in Wexford to Sennen Cove at Lands End.   Responsibilities included Desk Studies, Planning Reports, Landfall Selection and Design together with obtaining all licences, permits and authorisations for the installation of the cable. Responsibilities also included monitoring and reporting of Pirelli construction activities. The company was also involved in the satisfactory resolution of a issue in which the Contractor agreed to replace the offshore section of the cable at no additional cost to the client.

ESAT CABLE DUCTING AT LANDS END
Project: Cable Ducting at Lands End

The Project involved the planning, design and management of approximately 3.0km of 4 way cable duct together with associated Manholes and Junction Boxes. The project included cable routing, land and wayleave acquisition, contract management, site supervision and production of detailed As-Built Records.

The area traversed included a highly sensitive dune system backing Sennen Cove Beach at Lands End. A detailed Environmental Planning Report was produced and close liaison was maintained with the local authorities at all times. The construction phase of the project was completed in four weeks with an extremely low level of disruption, and a high level of reinstatement. The project was highly commended by Penwyth District Council.


T-50 Project
Client: Broad Band Communications Ltd.

The T-50 comprises a 44 km metropolitan system around Dublin linking all of the major Business Parks which are home to the various IDC’s, telehouses and multinational corporations and tying into the transatlantic cable system hubs in Dublin. The system provides 18 separate ducts with individual chambers.
Lands End and Kilmore Quay Cable Stations

This Project involved the construction management of two Cable Stations, one at Lands End in the UK and one at Kilmore Quay, Co. Wexford. The Project included all aspects including site identification and acquisition, wayleave acquisition, planning permission, procurement, project management, equipment, construction supervision, equipment installation and full commissioning.

The stations include air conditioning, uninterruptable power supply, fire detection and suppression, emergency generator and security system. Special attention was given to the external appearance of the buildings to ensure compatibility with the local surroundings particularly. in Lands End where the building was designed to complement local farm buildings. Full planning reports were prepared addressing environmental issues and close liaison with the local authorities enabling planning permission to be obtained expeditiously.

The buildings were completed 15 weeks after commencement of work during the winter period, and were available to receive the subsea cable in accordance with the work programme of the turnkey Contract .


332km Fibre Optic Cable, Western Digital Corridor

The Western Digital Corridor consists of a 48 fibre and a 144 fibre optic cable system extending from north Dublin to Galway, and on to Limerick over a distance of 332kms. The company was involved in the development of solutions at points of Special Engineering Difficulty (SED’ s) and in providing assistance to Oceans Project Manager together with Quality Assurance audits, monitoring of the installation and reinstatement, in certification of compliance with the Specification, and in the issue of a report for the Government in relation to Grant-Aid.

The 360 Networks Transatlantic system is the only telecoms network linking Ireland directly to North America. Resilience is provided in the first instance by routing to the North and South of Ireland, and this is carried through by diverse routing from Baldoyle to Clonshaugh with the return route going from Clonshaugh to Sutton for the return leg to Boston and Halifax.
The company was responsible for landfall selection, identification and purchase of a building at Clonshaugh, diverse backhaul planning, route design, way leaves, administration of contracts, and project management on behalf of 360 Networks.

The 360 Networks Transatlantic system is one of the major telecoms networks linking the U.K. directly to North America. Resilience is provided in the first instance by routing to the North and South of Ireland, and this is carried through by diverse routing from Ainsdale to the Cable Station at Southport with the return route going from the Cable Station at Southport to Welds Road for the return leg to Boston and Halifax.
The company was responsible for landfall selection, identification and purchase of a building at Southport, diverse backhaul planning, route design, way leaves, administration of contracts, and project management on behalf of 360 Networks.
360 Networks Terrestrial Cable,
Southport
Project: Cable Station

The company was responsible for the selection of a site, civil works, site investigations, and design of the piled foundations for the 10,000 sqm.Cable Station at Southport for 360networks. Poor ground conditions and high water table dictated a requirement for a grid of 120 No. 25m long driven piles. A gas-proof membrane was also incorporated together with a capping layer and pile tests were successfully completed prior to hand over to the building contractor.

TGN Atlantic Cable System
Comprising TGN Atlantic North & TGN Atlantic South

The Project involved obtaining all permits, licences, consents and approvals for the European sector of the TGN Atlantic system incorporating: TGN Atlantic North extending from Brean in Somerset to the continental shelf off the south west coast of Ireland. TGN Atlantic South extending from Saunton in Devon to the continental shelf off the south west coast of Ireland. Landfalls and Backhaul to Cable Stations at Brean and Saunton.

The Project involved obtaining all permits, licences, consents and approvals for the TGN Northern Europe system extending from Hunmanby, Yorkshire in the UK to Eemshaven in the Netherlands and for the Landfall and Backhaul to the Cable Station at Hunmanby.

This Project also involved obtaining three Pipeline Crossing Agreements.

The Project involved obtaining all permits, licences, consents and approvals for the TGN Western Europe system TGN Western Europe covering UK, Irish and French waters from Brean in Somerset to Portugal and Saunton in Devon to Spain .
