A study on the potential of Toll Scheme on the M7 between the Curragh and Portlaoise was commissioned by the NRA in late 2002. MDM, in conjunction with Location and Development Consultants Ltd. carried out the study which involved compilation and analysis of traffic patterns, traffic projections, development and evaluation of Toll scheme options, traffic assignments and financial modelling.


Heath Mayfield Traffic Study
Client: Kildare County Council
Date: 1992 - 1996

Kildare County Council, in conjunction with Laois County Council and the National Roads Authority, is proposing to upgrade the existing N.7, the National Primary Route, between the eastern end of the M.7 (the Portlaoise By-Pass) at The Heath and the western end of the proposed M.7 (the Kildare By-Pass) at Mayfield - to the east of Monasterevin  

An Environmental Impact Statement is being prepared for the Heath - Mayfield route and the Traffic Study formed part of the Statement. The report on the Traffic aspects incorporates the following:

Review of existing traffic data Listing and location of traffic surveys and compilation of data An Assessment of the likely
increase / decrease in and reassignment of traffic volumes on the existing and proposed alternative road networks that assessment being on the basis of a design year 2024. An
assessment of the road and junction type required for the preferred route option - that assessment being on the basis of a design year 2024. An assessment of the likely requirements for Public Transport.  Comparative analysis of alternative interchange options Comparative analysis of alternative options for the existing interchange network at The Heath


EAST LINK BRIDGE, DUBLIN
Project: East Link Bridge, Dublin
Client : National Toll Roads.
Date: 1989 - 1990

Tom McMahon was responsible for various aspects of the East Link Bridge project while a Director of McCarthy & Partners Consultants Ltd.
Traffic engineering, road planning and preliminary design the feasibility were executed under his direction.
The width of the River Liffey at the crossing point is 210m and the crossing was achieved with the following elements: 

  • 75m embankment on the South Bank: 
  • 4 No. 26m. concrete deck spans: 
  • single span steel bascule opening bridge, 31m long. 
    Construction commenced on 1st April 1983 and was opened to traffic on 21st October 1984.
  • East Link Bridge received the following awards:
    Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland’s Award for Excellence in Design: 
    Institution of Engineers of Ireland’s Smith Testimonial to Tom McMahon for his paper to the IEI’s Civil Division.
